I would suggest getting a character to lvl 75 to actually experience the game. sure there is lowbie things you can do in the game but like you said, its countless boring(to some its good fun) hours of lvling to get there. I find myself having more fun now that I have lvl 75 jobs, now that I can actually do things without dying.

I have, and I talk about my experience with it in Part I of this essay. My basic problem with FFXI is that the storyline is almost entirely optional and progressing through the storyline (at least when I played) did not get you experience. So you were forced to grind out your levels for countless, boring hours.

You ever try Final Fantasy XI? SE may not be so great, but they add new content about every 4 months. I've been playing this game for about 4years now and the storylines constantly changing.

It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if it would work out as well, just from a fun perspective. A lot of what keeps people going in games like D2 is the lure of getting "one more level," and before you know it the entire day has gone by. That's the kind of people I usually see playing it, anyway.
